With over 20 years experience, Krystal continues her advocacy within syilx language and culture as a lifelong learner. Krystal's artistic abilities and wealth of knowledge are a reflection of syilx mentorship and continued support within her traditional territory.

  • Nick Grant

    MTACS

    Nick Grant was appointed acting Assistant Deputy Minister of the Health Sector Planning and Innovation Division in May 2014. In this role Nick is responsible articulating and leading the implementation of government’s strategic direction for the health sector as detailed in the Ministry’s Setting Priorities for the B.C. Health System document. He is responsible for leading the Ministry’s strategic management, business intelligence, data and analytic, research, legislation and intergovernmental relations functions.

    Nick holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Victoria and has worked in the B.C. public service for over 20 years. Prior to this appointment, Nick held leadership positions at the Ministry of Health in Management Information and Strategic Planning.

  • Walt Judas

    Tourism Industry Association of Canada

    Walt has been involved in the tourism industry for over 35 years, having worked at BC Pavco, Port Metro Vancouver, and Tourism Vancouver prior to joining the Tourism Industry Association of British Columbia (TIABC) in May 2015.

    As CEO, Walt leads multiple advocacy/policy files, sets the strategic course for TIABC, builds relationships with members and industry stakeholders, and communicates the value of B.C.’s visitor economy to various constituents.

    Before TIABC, Walt spent 15+ years at Tourism Vancouver as Vice President of Marketing Communications, Membership and Sport.

    Over the years, Walt has held dozens of board and committee positions.  At present, he is on tourism program advisory committees for Capilano University, Western Community College and Vancouver Community College.  He also serves on the City of Vancouver’s Sport Hosting Grant Committee. In 2021, he was appointed to both Chair of the Provincial & Territorial Tourism Industry Association (PTTIA) and the board of the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) until May 2025.

    Walt holds a Bachelor of Hospitality Management Degree from Vancouver Community College (VCC), as well as a Diploma in Broadcast Communications Technology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).

    Having visited over 40 countries, Walt loves to travel and especially enjoys visiting communities around British Columbia and other provinces to meet with tourism colleagues.  For fun he plays hockey and golf, cycles to stay fit, and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

  • Alison McKay

    Destination BC

    Alison is Vice President of Destination Management at Destination BC, responsible for our destination management programs and efforts with a focus on supporting the revitalization of a strong and sustainable tourism sector in the province. 

    Alison leads the Destination Management team in implementing annual plans, programs and projects; works with the Executive team to support corporate-wide projects, such as Invest in Iconics, Destination Stewardship, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility; and collaborates with Indigenous Tourism BC on projects specific to Indigenous communities.

    Alison joined Destination BC in 2006 as a member of the research department. During her 16-year tenure, she has taken on progressively senior roles, most recently as Director of Destination & Industry Development. Her career highlights include partnering with RDMOs and Ministry staff to create a new provincial destination development program; and developing provincial, regional and local area strategies in cooperation with Indigenous communities, residents, businesses, economic development agencies, government and the tourism industry.

    Alison holds a Masters of Applied Environmental Studies: Tourism Policy & Planning from the University of Waterloo. She is an active volunteer in her local youth soccer and lacrosse communities and sits on the board of the Invasive Species Council of BC. During her free time, she enjoys exploring the outdoors with her family in their home of Coquitlam, on the unceded traditional territory of the Coast Salish Peoples and the Kwikwetlem First Nation.

  • Sam B. Samaddar

    Kelowna International Airport

    Sam’s interest in aviation developed early, at a young age he was involved with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets where he achieved his private pilot’s license at the age of 17. In 1988 he commenced his airport career at Vancouver International Airport and in 1992 he assumed the position of Superintendent Airport Operations at Kelowna International Airport and has held numerous positions, including Assistant General Manager jobs for both Airport Operations and Airport Development while achieving his International Accredited Airport Executive designation in 1997. In July 2008 Sam was appointed the Airport Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Kelowna International Airport – one of the top nine airports in Canada serving just over 2.1 million passengers in 2024. As Airport CEO, Sam currently is a board member of Tourism Kelowna, Airports Council International – World Board Committee, and serving as past Chair of Airports Council International – North America. Sam was also recently awarded Kelowna Chambers Business Person of the year.

    Colin Brost is the Senior Director of Destination & Market Development at Tourism Sun Peaks, where he leads strategic initiatives to grow one of Canada’s premier year-round mountain resorts. With more than 20 years of experience in tourism marketing, sales, and destination development, he has built a reputation for forging strong partnerships, driving innovative campaigns, and expanding international markets.

    Beyond his work at Tourism Sun Peaks, Colin holds a Diploma in Recreation Service Delivery and a Bachelor’s in Tourism Management from Vancouver Island University (VIU). His career reflects a deep commitment to tourism that benefits both visitors and the communities they explore, shaped by his global perspective from living and working in Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden.

    Colin recently served five years as a member of Destination Canada’s International Leisure Advisory Committee, where he contributed to national discussions on market trends, campaign strategies, and opportunities to strengthen Canada’s position in the global leisure travel market. His collaborative approach ensured that regional perspectives were represented in strategies that impact the entire country’s tourism economy.

    Locally, Colin holds community leadership roles as Board Member for the Kamloops Airport Authority Society and Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association. 

  • Katrin Coldwell

    Jonview

    Katrin Coldwell is a seasoned professional in Canada’s inbound tourism industry, with nearly two decades of experience driving visitation—particularly to British Columbia. Currently, as the Contracting Manager for Southern BC at Jonview, her career spans local and national receptive operators, direct-to-consumer and travel trade sales, and international tour operator destination management. After finishing her tourism education in Germany, Katrin relocated to Vancouver. A temporary assignment on the West Coast evolved into a long-term career and a deep connection to her adopted home.

    Her diverse background gives Katrin a unique perspective on international market dynamics, product development, and strategic contracting. She has contributed to initiatives that bring export-ready travel products to international markets and has supported tourism businesses—including accommodations and experience providers—in expanding their global reach.

    Her expertise includes negotiating complex contracts, developing and launching product portfolios, and creating B2B and B2C marketing initiatives in collaboration with Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) and Tourism Boards.

    Katrin’s collaborative approach and deep industry insight make her a trusted resource for tourism businesses looking to grow their distribution and visibility.   • Greg Hopf

    Moccasin Trails

    Born and raised in the Northwest Territories (NWT) Greg’s Indigenous Culture and background is his identity. Once Greg received his post- secondary education in Alberta, Greg went on to successfully manage a tourism hunting and fishing lodge in the NWT where the focus was on developing and providing Authentic Indigenous experiences.
    He later built the Aboriginal Sport Circle of the NWT where he worked for more than 10 years, building relationships and programming in 33 Indigenous communities. To this day, thousands of community members benefit from the organization’s thriving sport programs and structure.
    In 2016, Greg left the north and moved with his family to Kelowna, BC where he was responsible for developing an Indigenous cultural tourism strategy for the Thompson Okanagan region on behalf of the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association and Indigenous Tourism British Columbia. Greg led the successful bid to host the International Indigenous Tourism Conference (IITC) in Kelowna. IITC is the largest Indigenous Tourism Conference in the world.


    In 2017, Greg joined forces with his now business partner Frank Antoine and started an Indigenous tourism company called Moccasin Trails. Together they grew the business into an award-winning tourism company, receiving the tourism business of the year award from All Nations Trust in 2019, also being nominated for Provincial and National awards. Moccasin Trails is founded and deeply rooted in sharing Indigenous cultures to guests from around the world in a respectful way where Indigenous protocol is followed.


    Greg has presented at many conferences on Indigenous issues around the world, as well as inspirational topics around Indigenous business development, partnerships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations, youth empowerment, revitalization of Indigenous cultures, and much more.
    Greg currently resides in West Kelowna with his wife Sharon Hopf and two children, Keaton and Presley.

    Kimo is co-founder and Director of Business Development of ERTCU Travel Group (En Route Travel Canada) . As a South Okanagan based and award-winning receptive tour operator, En Route Travel is connecting many Thompson Okanagan tourism businesses with International and Domestic Tour Operators, and is specialized in packaged self-guided RV itineraries in Canada and the US for FIT and groups.

    Kimo is often found exploring and enjoying the Thompson Okanagan region for business and leisure, by foot, ski, bike, boat, or RV. He shares this knowledge of the region with international partners and consumers during sales and product training sessions, online, or during sales trips to Europe.

    Previously Kimo served for 12 years at Canada’s largest RV Rental company, Fraserway RV, as dealership GM and Rentals Exec, and was responsible for National Rentals Operations.

    Currently, Kimo serves on the BC Lodging and Campgrounds Association (BCLCA) board and is involved with several other industry organizations throughout Canada.

    Kimo brings significant international tourism and travel trade experience to the board and the TOTA community, a broad understanding of the region and its operators, and a deep knowledge of the RV and Camping industry.

  • Alison Evans

    Gulf Island Seaplanes

    Indigenous entrepreneur and business leader with over a decade of experience in aviation, operations management, and community economic development. Passionate advocate for Indigenous inclusion in business strategy, investment and leadership. 

    I am the co-founder of Gulf Island Seaplanes, a seaplane business on the west coast of British Columbia that started in 2014. Drawing on a combined love of adventure and travel, my husband and co-founder, Sean, and I, have worked extremely hard to grow as a business over the years, cultivating a strong reputation for excellent customer service, safety, and attention to detail. As an Indigenous female business owner and mother of four, the path has been challenging and rewarding, and surrounding the business with strong, incredibly hard working and loyal staff has been the key to Gulf Island Seaplanes success. 

    I am Gitxsan through my father from the Hagwilget Village First Nation living the past 18 years in Nanaimo on the beautiful lands of the Snuneymuxw people.  We operate across many unceded sacred territories and give thanks to our ancestors who since time immemorial have hunted, fished and taken care of these lands. 

  • Gordon Lovegrove

    University of British Columbia Okanagan

    Professor Dr Gord Lovegrove helped start the UBCO School of Engineering in 2005, where he teaches and researches sustainable community development.  His expertise is on the UN SDGs and sustainable community planning and design, including: homelessness, cohousing, net zero buildings, walkable neighborhoods, road safety, bicycling, transit, and hydrail tram-trains - systems that promote a more sustainable quality of life for all, as part of his SMARTer Growth Partnership research lab. Dr Lovegrove was the engineer responsible for the design and launch of UBC’s Student U-Pass program, which has tripled transit ridership and reduced GHG emissions at UBC by over 10,000 tonnes annually since 2003.

    Dr Lovegrove has served on many academic, federal, provincial, and civic bodies, some of which include: Rotary International, UBC Senate, Kelowna Gospel Mission, BC Cycling Coalition, and Provincial Road Safety. Dr Lovegrove was honoured to be asked to serve as Canada’s first Departmental Science Advisor to federal Deputy Ministers of Transport, Infrastructure, and Environment & Climate Change until 2022, when he joined Kelowna City Council.  He has since served stints on the Regional Hospital, Library, and District Boards, as well as Sterile Insect Release Program, SILGA, and Bio-Solids Boards.

    He is an avid lake swimmer, cyclist, and mentor.

  • Jim Moroz

    Jim Moroz is Managing Director of Kamloops Airport, responsible for setting and achieving safety standards and managing regulatory compliance across all airport operations. He also leads business and strategic planning and oversees security and airside operations. 

    Jim joined Vantage Group in 2013 after spending eight years in civil infrastructure project management, where he gained experience overseeing large-scale construction and development projects. In his previous role as Kamloops Airport’s Manager, Facilities and Emergency Response, Jim developed and delivered the airport’s capital program and provided leadership and management of the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting program and personnel. 

    Jim also serves on the board of Directors for The ASK Wellness Society, contributing to the organization’s important work in community outreach support services.

Residing in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, she is known for her work in the wine industry and for creating immersive culinary experiences that highlight Indigenous ingredients and traditions. As CEO and owner of Cree-ation Nation, an Indigenous culinary experience, she focuses on storytelling through food and showcases seasonal ingredients. Her endeavour is just starting and she will be collaborating with several businesses throughout the Okanagan Valley where her businesses are based. She is also a wine consultant, wine writer, and judge with her independent consulting service ZWineNinja Consulting. Her extensive experience in the wine and spirits industry include management positions at wineries and liquor retailers such as CedarCreek Estate winery, Mark Anthony Wine Merchants, and Roche Wines. She is a certified Sommelier through the International Sommelier Guild and holds Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) credentials.     Jessica is the General Manager of The Balcomo, a family-owned boutique hotel and landmark in Penticton’s hospitality landscape. Jessica continues a legacy that began in 1904, when her great-grandfather, R.H. Agur, established the original Balcomo homestead in Summerland’s Prairie Valley — the inspiration for the hotel’s name and enduring spirit.

    Building on the foundation laid by her parents, Janice and Robin Agur, who transformed the former Pilgrim House into a welcoming courtyard retreat in 1991, Jessica leads The Balcomo with a focus on authentic hospitality, innovation, and community connection.

    This summer, she introduced The Balcomo Wellness Centre, a luxury addition featuring a sauna, hot tub, cold plunge, salt yoga studio, relaxation room, and firepit terrace.     At the CTA, Rebecca drives regional to national food tourism initiatives, including the newly launched Great Taste of Canada. She leads community-based projects, strategic partnerships, and marketing campaigns that put Canadian culinary destinations on the global map.

    A recognized leader in the field, Rebecca is Past Chair of both the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) and Visit The County, and is a long-standing member of the UNWTO’s Gastronomic Tourism Network.   • Jennifer Horsnell

    Destination Canada

    As Senior Director, Destination Development for Destination Canada, Jennifer relies on her extensive experience as a destination marketing organization specialist having worked for Destination Greater Victoria (Tourism Victoria), Destination BC (Tourism BC) and Tourism Kelowna before joining Destination Canada. Her passion for storytelling at the heart of visitor experiences was born when she attended the University of Victoria and worked on a paper about the historic Fairmont Empress Hotel for one of her history courses. This passion continued to grow at Selkirk College where she completed a twoyear tourism program on Resort and Hotel Management. Her experience in communityled destination development blossomed as she led the approval and construction of a new $2M visitor centre at the historic ferry landing along Kelowna’s waterfront as well as the development of a community tourism destination development strategy for the Central Okanagan. Jennifer is active in her community serving on several local advisory boards and community organizations. Along with her husband and two daughters, she is a proud Kelowna resident and can often be found floating on Okanagan Lake or trying the valley’s latest vintages at one of the over 120 amazing wineries.

  • Rhys Laug

    Quaaout Lodge & Talking Rock Resort (Skwlāx te Secwepemcúl̓ecw)

    Rhys is a dedicated community builder with nearly 30 years of experience in the tourism industry. Originally from Ontario, he studied Environmental and Political Sciences and began his career in IT. His love for the outdoors led him to Whistler in the mid-90s, and after exploring life in the Comox Valley and East Kootenays, he settled in the Shuswap in 2008 where his family was welcomed into the Skwlāx te Secwepemcúl̓ecw community.

    A senior manager at Quaaout Lodge & Talking Rock Resort since 2010, which has included being a member of the Skwlāx te Secwepemcúl̓ecw (formerly Little Shuswap Lake Band) Emergency Management, Infrastructure, and Economic Development working groups.  Most recently Rhys has played a key role in the recovery of Quaaout Lodge & Talking Rock Resort after a fire destroyed part of the facility in 2022. He is also part of the team restoring community infrastructure, homes, and businesses after the Bush Creek Wildfire impacted the Skwlāx community in 2023.

    In addition to his work, Rhys enjoys exploring lakes and trails, skiing, and snowboarding. He is a founding director of the Arts Council for the South Shuswap (2015-2023) and currently serves on the board of the Shuswap Economic Development Society. He has also participated in several regional destination development working groups in collaboration with DBC, TOTA, and ITBC.

Rodney trained as a lawyer, focusing on areas of environmental law. He began his career in investment banking before finding his purpose in the travel industry. For nearly two decades, he has worked alongside destination marketers all over the world to inspire sustainable travel and develop thriving tourism economies that work for local residents. As CEO, Rodney has led the growth of Destination Think across the world. He joined Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) as Founding Partner of CDL Climate to accelerate innovations that are needed to tackle one of humanity’s most imminent challenges. He is an advisor to AirMiners and is fostering a partnership with Musk Foundation’s $100 million XPRIZE Carbon.
